We are delighted to welcome you to our website.  We hope you enjoy exploring the site and finding out more about our school.

There are records of schools in Thorverton over at least three hundred and fifty years. The present school was erected on Glebe land in 1842 and after 1944 became a Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School under the Devon Local Authority ( L.A.).  We enjoy close links with the village Church and the local Church community.

There are currently 79 children on roll who are taught in three classes.  We are proud to offer a curriculum that has been designed by our staff to offer children meaningful and engaging learning opportunities.  We place a high priority on the learning environment; both the environment inside the school buildings and in the school grounds.  We are fortunate to have extensive school grounds which include a forest school, a large playing field, a separate walled garden for our youngest children, an outdoor stage, a vegetable garden and a spiritual/sensory garden.

We can offer a large range of extra-curricular clubs which are run by parents and volunteers.  This year we have been able to offer netball, tag rugby, athletics, multi-sports, chess, choir,  guitar, airfix modeling, chess, gardening and forest clubs.  We are also well supported by our PTFA who do an enormous amount to raise additional funds for our school.

Many of the parents and grandparents and some of the staff, were themselves pupils here which adds to the community feel of the school; we serve and are served by our local community.

We have recently had a pre-school built on the school site, this opened in June 2011 and means that children can now have a learning journey through the school from two and a half to eleven years old.  Please use the link on this website to discover what the pre-school can offer our youngest children.

When children leave us at the end of Year 6, many children transfer to Queen Elizabeth’s Community College, Crediton, to which the Local Authority provide daily transport.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school if you would like to visit.
